Peter J. Shelly
Vice President
As a former statehouse reporter and successful Internet entrepreneur, Peter J. Shelly brings hands-on business development experience and first-hand knowledge of the issues and players in Harrisburg and across the state. He is currently Vice President of Communications for Triad Strategies, one of Pennsylvania's leading public affairs companies.

In September of 1999, Shelly and three partners launched Capitolwire, an Internet-based state government news and information service. Shelly led Capitolwire through two significant venture capital rounds. He also led the company's acquisition by The Associated Press, the world's largest newsgathering organization, in August of 2002. As editor, Shelly opened Capitolwire offices in five state Capitols: Harrisburg, Trenton, Albany, Columbus and Richmond. Shelly also served as a Vice President and was responsible for site development, marketing and sales efforts at Capitolwire. He served as Director of Capitolwire until joining Triad in December 2002. Capitolwire has become an invaluable tool of the trade for lobbyists, government officials, lawmakers and their staffs, as well as dozens of trade associations across the state.

Prior to founding Capitolwire, Shelly was an award-winning journalist based in the Pennsylvania capitol newsroom for nine years covering state public affairs. Shelly worked for the state's second-largest paper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from 1995-1999. From 1990-1995, Shelly worked for the Patriot-News of Harrisburg, covering suburban news and the state capitol.

Before joining The Patriot News staff in 1990, Shelly was a correspondent for the Philadelphia Inquirer, covering suburban news in the Philadelphia area. Before moving to the midstate, Shelly worked for the Chestnut Hill Local and Montgomery Publishing, covering local news and issues in the Philadelphia and Montgomery County area.

In his three years at Triad, Shelly has crafted high stakes communications plans for a wide range of clients, including Verizon, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, Pediatrix Inc., Glen-Gery Corp., the Pennsylvania Partnership for Children, The Hershey Trust Company, Triad Strategies and the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors. These plans were crafted and executed in partnership with the clients' government and community relations teams.
